Spring beckons for a walk in Zagorje

The beautiful spring days urge you to get outdoors for some fresh air.

Here are some suggestions to inspire you to take a walk in the charming Zagorje hills.

 

  1. THE TOPLICE CIRCULAR WALKING ROUTE

The gentle hills surrounding Krapinske Toplice are riddled with numerous footpaths and pathways. The starting point of all routes is the park of the Special Hospital for Medical Rehabilitation. The routes are of three different difficulty levels.

  1. THE ORCHID PATHS

The hiking-educational route “The Orchid Paths” is located on the Strahinjščica mountain, in the municipality of Radoboj. The route is about 13 kilometres long and consists of three sections. Hikers can choose the sections best suited to them according to their fitness level and capability.

Eleven educational panels have been placed along the route containing information on the green cover, wildlife, fossil and ore resources, as well as other peculiarities of the greater Strahinjščica area.

  1. THE KAMENJAK HISTORICAL-EDUCATIONAL ROUTE

This 1200-metre-long route is located on the southwestern side of the Kamenjak forest, in the northeastern section of the municipality of Stubičke Toplice in the vicinity of the “Matija Gubec” hotel.

 

The Kamenjak forest is rich in biological diversity. Along the route you will find rest stops and educational panels about Kamenjak’s features, the trees, shrubs, groundcover plants, animal species of the area, many of which are endangered and protected by law.

  1. PATHS OF THE NEANDERTHALS

The starting point of this 2-kilometre circular route is the Donje Jesenje town hall (“Općinski dom”), 12 kilometres from Krapina, in the northwestern part of the Krapina-Zagorje County.

You’ll encounter 6 main informational points while walking through this beautiful and ancient landscape. The multimedia audio guide provide interesting stories and information on the life of the Neanderthals.
